The disused Midland Railway route through the Peak District to Manchester, shot a few years ago, before I started thinking about this whole Lines In The Landscape thing properly…
Finally opened up as a cycle path since this was shot, so will hopefully get the view from the line itself one of these days.

A South West Trains DMU passing the ruins of Sherborne Old Castle on the West of England Main Line, near where I grew up in Dorset — a not-previously featured spot, shot last summer back while this tumblr was still new and was still working its way through other people’s shots…

The double-deck High Level Bridge, with some variety of sprinter (unless that’s a pacer) DMU, shot from the Tyne Bridge when I was passing through Newcastle in May 2011. The Newcastle/Gateshead riverside is amazing — like a full size version of one of those model train sets where people stuff in an implausibly dense network of impressive railway infrastructure.Newcastle/Gateshead High Level Bridge, East Coast Main Line.
Dentdale on Flickr.I spent a long and very cold easter weekend in Cumbria, Yorkshire and Lancashire, mostly doing the usual proper photography, but with a couple of crossings of the Settle to Carlisle on my route, I couldn’t not stop off to catch a few cliché Lines In The Landscape shots — including a northbound pair of 158s on Arten Gill (followed a couple of minutes later by a southbound freight). It’s a scene that others have shot more than enough times before, and which appeared here on LITL at least twice, but…

Here’s something I shot a couple of months ago, taking a little detour on the way home from work. Overlooking the Brighton and Kent Main Lines and Southern suburban commuter lines out of London Victoria, from the backstreets behind the station. The bright light below the depot is a train arcing the damp third rail electric supply.

I love your blog :) Some great photographs on here

Thanks — though for 99% of them, I can claim credit only for being the curator, and now the curated queue has all run out. Perhaps I’ll keep the tumblr ticking over by adding my own shots from time to time…

Do you have a personal favourite rail route?

There are lots of nice ones, but obviously none could present any serious challenge to the West Highland Line.

Where are you from?

Just down the road from here, on the West of England Main Line:

But I’ve also lived here, here, here, here, and here. But currently, I’m just down the road from here:
